Comments let you leave notes on a document without touching its text — perfect for feedback, questions, and review.
Leaving a comment
Select the text you want to comment on.
Click the comment button in the floating toolbar.
Type your note and post it.
The selected text gets a highlight that marks the thread, so anyone reading knows a comment lives there.
The comments panel
Open the panel from the comment icon in the document header — it shows how many open threads the document has. Every thread is listed here; click one to jump to the text it's attached to.
Replies
Open a thread and click Reply to add to the conversation. The reply box stays tucked away until you click Reply — so threads read cleanly — and there's a Cancel if you change your mind.
Resolving
Done with a thread? Resolve it to clear it from the active list while keeping the record. Resolved threads aren't gone — you can still bring them back into view.
Deleting
Remove a comment with the trash button. You can delete a comment if you wrote it, or if you're a workspace or document admin. Deleting a whole thread also strips its highlight from the text; deleting a single reply just removes that one message.
Who can comment
You need Comment access or higher — Commenter, Editor, or Owner — to start a thread or reply. See Sharing & Public Access for how access levels work.
